BRIEF: Man pulled from Oak Brook pond dies

May 30--A 24-year-old man died Sunday after being pulled from a pond in the Briarwood Lakes subdivision in Oak Brook.

Police said Isaac Martinez, whose last known address was in Glen Ellyn, was seen struggling in the water at 7:35 a.m. When police and fire officials arrived, there was no sign of a person, and the Fire Department dive team went into the pond to look.

It is estimated Martinez was in the water about 30 minutes before divers pulled him out, police said. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a disabled vehicle was found on southbound Route 83 between Interstate 88 and 31st Street, and they were able to determine Martinez had been driving it before he was found in the water. The Briarwood Lakes subdivision borders Route 83 to the east.

Police said they do not know why Martinez entered the water.
