BRIEF: Man pulled from Chicago River after jumping in for Blackhawks cap

June 19--Emergency crews rescued a man from the Chicago River after he apparently jumped in after his Blackhawks cap, officials said.

The man leaped from the south side of a walkway along the Chicago River near Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive around 8:40 p.m. Thursday, according to a fire battalion chief.

A scuba team and other fire companies arrived on the north side of the river within minutes, but left soon after the man was pulled out by a Chicago police marine unit, officials said.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was in good condition and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, officials said.

A man who identified himself as the victim's brother, also wearing Blackhawks apparel, tossed a backpack of clothes onto the police boat for the man, who was wrapped in a black blanket and a life vest. And wearing his red Blackhawks cap.

A security guard said the man was one of several people who had jumped into the Chicago River on Thursday, including two men who dove in and swam back to shore.

About 2 million people lined a parade route and were at a rally earlier Thursday at Soldier Field to celebrate the Blackhawks Stanley Cup victory.
