Sept. 27--An Evanston man was killed and an Evanston woman was seriously injured during a Sunday morning crash in the north suburb, police said.
The accident happened at 2:20 a.m. on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue, Evanston police said in a press release.
A 42-year-old woman from Evanston was driving a 1998 Nissan northbound when the vehicle struck several cars parked on both sides of the street, police said. The impacts caused the vehicle to rollover, trapping a 45-year-old male passenger. The man, Lamart Bailey was in the front seat and had to be extricated by Evanston Fire Department officials.
Paramedics took the two victims to Evanston North Shore University Hospital where Bailey, who police said was a U.S. Army veteran, was pronounced dead. The driver was listed in serious but stable condition.
Evanston Police's traffic bureau along with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force/Major Crash Assistance team are investigating. Police said it was not known if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The roadway was reopened to traffic at 9 a.m., police said.
