BRIEF: Man killed on construction site in South Loop

Oct. 24--A worker was killed Friday morning when equipment blew apart in his face during tests at a construction site in the South Loop, authorities said.

The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. at 901 S. State St., according to Chicago Fire Department Media Affairs.

"High-pressure air" was being used to test equipment when a worker was hit in the face, according to Larry Langford, a Fire Department spokesman.

The man was identified as Joseph Middona, 38, of the 900 block of Kindberg Court in Elburn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:58 a.m. Friday, officials said.
