Sept. 22--A Waukegan man was killed Monday night after the car he was driving crashed head-on with another vehicle on Yorkhouse Road in Beach Park, Lake County authorities said.
According to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office, a 2002 Saturn SC was traveling west on Yorkhouse Road near North Avenue about 8:30 p.m. The driver for reasons unknown entered into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2004 Dodge Ram, which was traveling east on Yorkhouse.
Lake County Coroner chief deputy Orlando Portillo said Tuesday afternoon that the the driver of the Saturn, 51-year-old Gerrit De Koning of Waukegan, was pronounced dead at Vista Medical Center East around 9:30 p.m. He added that an autopsy has been scheduled to determine cause of death.
Police report the driver of the Dodge Ram sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The traffic crash reportedly remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff's office.
