BRIEF: Man killed by police after waving, pointing gun on Sylmar streets

April 23--Police in Sylmar shot and killed man who was reportedly walking around, waving a gun and threatening people Thursday morning.

Calls began coming into 911 dispatchers just before 7 a.m. about a man in the vicinity of Tyler Street and Glenoaks Boulevard threatening people and waving a gun, said LAPD Officer Tony Im.

When officers arrived, they found the man with the weapon pointed to his head, Im said. Officers tried to speak with the man, but he walked away before turning around and aiming at the officers, Im said.

At least one officer shot the man, who was hit in the torso, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. The incident took place a couple of blocks from Olive Vista Middle School. The school was not locked down, a school district official said.
