BRIEF: Man killed after colliding with semi on Tri-State

Nov. 04--A 55-year-old man died Tuesday morning after his car struck the back of a semi on northbound Tri-State Tollway, police said.

The accident happened about 4:50 a.m. near milepost 29 on the northbound Tri-State just south of the ramp onto westbound Int. Hwy. 88 near west suburban Oak Brook, according to state police.

According to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Carlita Joe, a car changed lanes in front of the semi, causing it to slow down. The car driven by the 55-year-old man, a red 2013 Ford, then crashed into the rear of the semi and a 2001 gold Pontiac then crashed into the rear of the Ford.

The 55-year-old man was dead at the scene, Joe said, and the driver of the Pontiac was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Joe said the accident was still under investigation.

Multiple lanes in that area were closed by the accident investigation, police said, fouling up traffic for miles on the expressway surrounding the accident scene, but the road had reopened by 7:31 a.m.
