BRIEF: Man killed after being struck by truck on I-294 near Alsip

June 22--A Chicago Ridge man was pronounced dead Friday evening after being struck by a truck on Interstate 294 near Alsip, according to the Illinois State Police.

The 27-year-old man parked his car on the right shoulder and ran into traffic around 6:34 p.m. in the right southbound lane of I-294 in front of a 2007 Peterbilt semitrailer, state police said, citing preliminary information.

The man was later identified as Yousef J. Khatib, of the 9800 block of S. Sayre Avenue in Chicago ridge, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Khatib was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m. at the scene of the crash, the medical examiner said.

The crash happened at mile post 13.2. The right lane was closed for about four hours after the crash.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story had an incorrect spelling for the Chicago Ridge man's last name.
