BRIEF: 2 killed, 2 others seriously injured in North Branch crash

Dec. 08--A man and woman were killed and two others were seriously injured early Sunday morning when the SUV they were in crashed on the North Side near the city's North Branch industrial corridor.

About 3:30 a.m., a gray Chevrolet Tahoe was westbound on the 1600 block of West Webster Avenue when it side swiped another vehicle in traffic, and then fled the scene, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

The SUV continued to flee, but struck a parked car and a tree on the 1800 block of West Webster Avenue, said Greer.

The driver of the Tahoe, a 40-year-old man, was killed in the crash, police said. A female passenger who had been in the vehicle's front seat also later died, according to police.

The woman was died was identified as Lajada Jackson, 37, of an unknown address, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. She was pronounced dead at 5:48 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

A woman was being treated at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital and a man was being treated at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where their conditions had stabilized, police said. They initially were taken to hospitals in serious-to-critical condition.

Police are investigating.
