Nov. 11--A 21-year-old man was hospitalized early Tuesday after trying to treat himself for a gunshot wound, police said.
The man told police he was walking with a friend in the 7400 block of South Phillips Avenue about 12:05 a.m. when someone in a passing dark-colored sedan opened fire, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
The man and a friend ran to the friend's house, where the 21-year-old realized he had been shot, Estrada said.
After making an effort to treat a through-and-through gunshot wound to his knee, the man asked his friend to drive him to South Shore Hospital.
He was treated at the hospital and his condition had stabilized as of early Tuesday, police said.
