BRIEF: Man seriously injured in West Garfield Park crash

Jan. 20--A man was hospitalized after he crashed a car in West Garfield Park on the city's West Side.

The crash happened about 2:25 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of a car heading eastbound at a high rate of speed crashed into a van in the 4200 block of West Madison Street, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The car's driver then crashed into a fire hydrant and debris from the car struck another vehicle, police said. The driver, a man whose age was not immediately available, was the only person injured in the crash. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Police said traffic citations were being issued to the driver early Tuesday.
