BRIEF: Teen struck and killed trying to cross Edens Expressway

Jan. 20--A 18-year-old man was struck and killed as he tried to cross the Edens Expressway after apparently running out of gas early Wednesday, police said.

The teen was in an SUV with three other people when he pulled over to the left shoulder of the Edens near Skokie Boulevard around 12:45 a.m., said Sgt. Alexander Diaz of the Illinois State Police.

He left the SUV and tried to cross traffic when he was hit, Diaz said.

The teen was taken to Evanston Northshore University Hospital and pronounced dead about 1:20 a.m.
