March 14--A West Lawn neighborhood man was ordered held without bail Monday after being charged with stabbing a 17-year-old boy in the South Loop over the weekend, according to prosecutors and court records.
Chris Cervantes, 19, got into a dispute with the boy in the 800 block of South Wabash Avenue about 6 p.m. Saturday, and stabbed the boy in the neck, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman, adding that Cervantes is charged with attempted murder in the attack.
The boy was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he initially was in serious condition, police said.
The two were in a verbal dispute when Cervantes pulled out a "cutting instrument" and stabbed the boy, Sedevic said.
Cervantes then fled the area but was arrested near his home about 3:40 a.m., Sedevic said.
Cervantes appeared before Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan for a bond hearing midday Monday and was ordered held without bail, according to state's attorney's office spokeswoman Lisa Gordon and court docket records. Cook County court records show no criminal background in adult court for Cervantes.
Cervantes is scheduled to appear in court again on March 21.
