Aug. 20--A man from Roscoe, Ill., has been found guilty in Kane County of robbing another man to whom he owed $100, prosecutors said Wednesday.
After deliberating about an hour, a jury returned a guilty verdict Tuesday against Jose G. Trujillo, 33, for the September 2013 aggravated robbery.
Authorities said Trujillo owed a Hampshire man $100 and the two men had arranged a meeting in a Hampshire restaurant parking lot so Trujillo could repay the debt.
However, when Trujillo arrived, he approached the man's car and leaned into an open window, and then implied he was armed, according to prosecutors. Trujillo then made the man hand over $145 he had in his wallet. Trujillo, who threatened the man's family, also took a money envelope containing $600 from the man's car, authorities said.
He then told man, "Later, bro," before driving off, prosecutors said.
Judge Susan Clancy Boles, who presided over the trial, set Oct. 14 for sentencing. Trujillo, who remains free on bond, could face a sentence of four to 15 years in prison, though probation is also an option.
