BRIEF: Man found in South Side home was shot to death

Dec. 18--A man found dead in his West Englewood home was shot to death, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined Wednesday.

Matthew Dowdell, 42, was shot in the head and his death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy Wednesday.

Dowdell was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on the scene in the 5900 block of South Wolcott Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office.

Police found the man dead in his home about 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, according to Police News Affairs. Detectives were conducting a death investigation, and Chicago police were releasing no further information.
