BRIEF: Man fatally struck by CTA Red Line train at Argyle stop

Jan. 04--A 31-year-old man died after being struck by a CTA Red Line train at the Argyle stop on the North Side early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Around 3 a.m., a northbound Red Line train hit the man near the Argyle stop at 1118 W. Argyle Ave., halting the trains between Howard and Belmont stops, according to Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Tammy Chase and police.

The man was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. The incident is being considered a death investigation, Alfaro said.

It is unclear how the man ended up on the tracks, Alfaro said.

The man, identified as a resident of the Lakeview East negihborhood, was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. No autopsy information was released by the office Sunday.

Bus services were provided between Howard and Belmont stops for commuters, Chase said.
