BRIEF: Man dies on Thanksgiving after being hit by gunfire

Dec. 01--A man who was wounded when a bullet pierced a bedroom window and struck him in the head died Thanksgiving night, officials said Sunday.

Someone opened fire about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday outside a frame house in the 2100 block of West Garfield Boulevard in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood, one bullet going through the wall and another through a second-floor window of the bedroom, police said.

A 50-year-old man was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:01 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He was identified as Leroy Stinson of the 2100 block of West Garfield, according to the medical examiner's office, which said he died from a gunshot wound to his head. His death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy Sunday.

As of Sunday night, Police News Affairs had not yet been notified by detectives that the victim had died and had no additional information about the slaying.
