BRIEF: Man dies months after West Side beating

Nov. 06--A South Side man died last week of injuries he suffered in a beating in Lawndale over the summer, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined Wednesday.

Antonio Valentine, 34, was pronounced dead at 4:18 p.m. Friday while in the care of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care of Chicago, according to the medical examiner's office.

An autopsy Wednesday determined Valentine, of the 6000 block of South Winchester Avenue, died of complications from multiple injuries suffered in an assault Aug. 1, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.

The victim, who was 33 years old at the time, was found by police about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 1 on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of South Kildare Avenue, said police spokesman Thomas Sweeney. The man appeared to have been struck in the face and suffered from swelling on one side of his head, including one side of his face.

The man was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment, Sweeney said.

Detectives have made no arrests in the case, according to police and court records.
