BRIEF: Man dies day after being shot on West Side

Dec. 12--A West Garfield Park neighborhood man died a day after he was shot Tuesday morning a few blocks from his home, authorities said Friday.

Kenneth Turner, 28, was shot in the 4800 block of West Gladys Avenue, at Cicero Avenue, in the Austin neighborhood, and was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Turner, of the 300 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the office determined following an autopsy Friday.

Turner was shot about 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

He was on a sidewalk in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue, near Gladys, when someone fired shots toward him and fled north through a nearby alley, police said.

The 28-year-old initially was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital with a head wound.

No one was in custody Friday.
