BRIEF: Man dies almost a year after Northwest Side fire

Jan. 25--A man injured in a Portage Park house fire last winter has died of complications from his injuries, authorities determined Sunday.

Lester Fraszczynski, 71, was pronounced dead at 8:35 a.m. Saturday at a nursing home in the 800 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Fraszczynski died of complications from carbon monoxide poisoning suffered after inhaling fumes in a house fire in the 5200 block of West Eddy Street on Feb. 6 last year, the medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy Sunday. His death was ruled an accident.

The fire took place about 1:20 a.m. on Feb. 6 at a home in the 5200 block of West Eddy Street and injured one man, police said at the time. The man hurt in the fire initially was taken to Community First Medical Center for treatment of burns and other injuries.

There were no indications at the time that the fire was suspicious, and it is not listed as an arson in a public database of crime incidents in Chicago.

Court records indicate Fraszczynski was living at the Eddy Street home at the time of the fire.
