BRIEF: Man dies after being rescued from Lake Michigan

March 17--A man died after he was pulled from Lake Michigan in South Shore early Thursday, authorities said.

At about 6 a.m., police and fire crews responded to the 3300 block of East Cheltenham Place in the South Shore neighborhood and found the man in the water.

A dive team was deployed and pulled him out, said Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder. He was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

No information was available on how he got into the water. The area is near a water treatment plant.
