June 07--A 77-year-old man has died after he was found unresponsive in a Gold Coast high-rise building's pool, officials said.
The man was found about 12:37 p.m. in the 55th-floor pool of a building at 130 E. Oak St., said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva. The man was taken from the building, which is also known as 1000 Lake Shore Plaza, to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
The man was later pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
Someone at the pool was pulling the man out of the water when the first fire crews arrived at the scene, according to officials.
