BRIEF: Man dies 2 days after being shot in Back of the Yards neighborhood

Aug. 04--A 23-year-old man died two days after he was shot outside of his residence in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Honorio Hernandez was found shot several times early Friday morning outside his home on the 4300 block of South Wood Street. Police initially said he was shot in his chest and neck.

Hernandez, who was unresponsive at the scene, was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital where doctors were able to revive him, police said.

He was pronounced dead about 6:45 a.m. Sunday at the hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy revealed he died of a gunshot wound of the head, and his death was ruled a homicide, officials said.

Police were investigating.
