Aug. 29--A man died in a hit-and-run car crash early Saturday in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.
The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. in the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road, said Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer.
A 2002 Honda Civic and a dark-colored van were speeding east on Irving Park Road when the van struck the Honda, which then struck a tree, Greer said.
The man who was driving the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, Greer said. His exact age was not immediately available.
No one else was in the Honda except for the driver.
The occupants of the van ran away from the scene of the crash, Greer said.
As of early Saturday, no one was in custody.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the case, and no other information was available.
