Man killed, another critically wounded in Back of the Yards

April 27--Two men were shot, one fatally, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, among at least six people injured in Chicago shootings since late afternoon Tuesday.

The two were shot around 4:35 p.m. in the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard, police said. A 24-year-old man shot in the abdomen died at Stroger Hospital. The other man, 19, was in critical condition at the hospital.

The man killed was identified as Glenn Wheeler, of the 5200 block of South Wood Street, a little more than a mile west and a few blocks north of where he was shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Wheeler was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m., according to the office, which determined Wednesday that he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Wheeler had no criminal background in Cook County, according to court records.

Police said the two were in a westbound car when someone in another westbound car opened fire. No one is in custody.
