BRIEF: Man dead, 2 injured in Arlington Heights fire

Oct. 06--A man died and two others were injured after a fire broke out in northwest suburban Arlington Heights early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

The blaze started around 1:58 a.m. at a house in the 1600 block of West Waverly Court, said Arlington Heights Fire Chief Ken Koeppen to reporters on the scene.

One man died as a result, and two other people were injured. The two survivors were taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to Koeppen. The victims' exact ages were not immediately available.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the fatality early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters struck out the fire, which was contained to the house's hallway, in about 10 minutes, according to Koeppen.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, authorities said.
