BRIEF: Man currently in custody faces additional armed robbery charges

May 28--A 19-year-old man already in custody faces additional charges related to five other incidents, police said Thursday.

Jaleel Johnson, of the 6900 block of South Artesian Avenue, was charged with four counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery, police said.

Johnson had previously been charged with robbing a 21-year-old woman and was ordered held May 19 on $175,000 bail, according to police and court records.

Johnson now has been charged with a series of crimes dating from March 7 to May 16 that occurred in the Near West and Near North police districts, police said.

Previously, Johnson was charged after police say he followed a 21-year-old woman into the vestibule of a building in the 3100 block of North Southport Avenue in the Lakeview neighborhood.

He then grabbed the woman, shoved her to the ground and stole her purse before running away, police said. Three men who saw the incident chased Johnson, caught him close to the crime scene and held him for police.
