July 26--A man and a teenage boy were killed and nine others, including a 14-year-old boy, have been wounded since Friday afternoon in separate shootings on the South and West sides, police said.
A 32-year-old man was shot to death around 12:50 a.m. Saturday in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.
The man, identified by family members as Joseph Campbell, was walking on a sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Hubbard Street when someone fired gunshots, police said.
Campbell was struck in the abdomen and the right shoulder and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot on the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood at 6:45 p.m. Friday, police said.
The teen, Donell Morrison, of the 1300 block of South Kostner Avenue, was at that location when a black minivan drove up with its sliding door open and someone from inside began firing, police said.
Morrison was struck in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
Nine other people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded in separate shootings:
--A 23-year-old man walked into Stroger Hospital about 10:15 a.m. Saturday after being shot while riding inside a vehicle on the 4500 block of South Paulina Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. The man, who suffered a wound to the left leg, was taken by a friend to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.
--About 7 a.m. Saturday , a 21-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder while riding in a vehicle in the 800 block of North Western Avenue in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. A car pulled alongside and opened fire, striking the victim while he was sitting in the passenger seat. The driver took him to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder, but he was later transferred to Stroger where his condition was stabilized. Police said the shooting was gang-related.
--About 5:15 a.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man was sitting on his porch in the 6400 block of South Eberhart Avenue in the city's Woodlawn neighborhood when he was shot in both arms in a drive-by, said Estrada. A Good Samaritan drove him to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center where his condition was stabilized. Police believe the attack was gang-related.
--Shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old woman was shot while she was a passenger inside a vehicle driving on the 2500 block of West Iowa Street in Humboldt Park. Another car pulled alongside of the vehicle she was in and fired shots, grazing her upper back. The driver took her to Saints Mary and Elizabeth, where her condition was stabilized.
--A 24-year-old woman walked into Mount Sinai Hospital after getting shot around 2:40 a.m. Saturday in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said. The woman told police she was walking on a sidewalk in the 8100 block of South Loomis Street when she was shot in the buttocks, Alfaro said. Her condition stabilized at the hospital.
--Around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, a 40-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the 2600 block of West 24th Street in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side, Alfaro said. The man was shot in the left heel and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Alfaro said. The man was uncooperative with police officers, and no other information was available about the shooting, police said.
--About 11:05 p.m. Friday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, Alfaro said. The boy was standing on a sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Kedvale Avenue with a group of people when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck. The boy was hit in the shin and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition, police said.
--About 7:45 p.m. Friday, a 25-year-old woman was shot on the 8800 block of South Aberdeen Street in the Gresham neighborhood, police said. The woman was shot in the arm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where her condition stabilized, police said.
--A 24-year-old man was left in critical condition after being shot in the head Friday afternoon in the city's West Englewood neighborhood. The shooting happened about 3 p.m. on the 6500 block of South Justine Street. According to preliminary reports, the victim was involved in an argument with another man. The man pulled out a weapon and fired shots, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. The victim suffered a wound to the head and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Zala said.
No one was in custody as a result of the shootings, and police are still investigating.
