Dec. 28--Three men were killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings citywide since Saturday afternoon, police said.
A 28-year-old man was killed in an Englewood neighborhood shooting that also wounded a 28-year-old woman, police said.
They were outside near the intersection of 59th Street and Wentworth Avenue about 2:15 a.m. when people walked up and fired shots, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman, citing preliminary information.
The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead, Greer said. The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, and her condition was stabilized.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Tyree White, of the 200 block of East 121st Place, and said he was 29 years old.
A 36-year-old man was killed at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, police said.
He was sitting outside with a group of people in the 2800 block of 21st Place when an SUV drove up. The people inside flashed gang signs and fired shots, and the man was hit in the chest and mouth.
A friend drove him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
About 7:20 p.m., a 28-year-old man was killed in Lawndale, Greer said. He was found in a vehicle in the 600 block of South Tripp Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced dead.
At 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a 55-year-old woman was shot in West Englewood, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.
She went to answer the door of a building in the 6700 block of South Oakley Avenue when she was shot in the shoulder and abdomen. Two males were seen leaving the scene afterward.
She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in guarded condition.
At about 4:20 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot in Englewood, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.
He was found in a car near the intersection of 60th and Laflin streets with multiple gunshot wounds to the body, Gaines said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
About 2:30 a.m., two people were shot in Uptown, Gaines said.
A 68-year-old man was standing outside and a 34-year-old woman was in a vehicle in the 1100 block of West Lawrence Avenue when they each heard gunfire and realized they had been shot, Gaines said.
The man was shot in the leg and the woman was grazed in the forehead. Both went to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.
After the shooting, an empty SUV was discovered crashed nearby, Gaines said.
At 6:15 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in South Austin, Greer said.
He was in the 5200 block of West Adams Street when two people wearing masks approached from an alley and shot him in the left leg, Greer said. He went to West Suburban Medical Center in good condition.
About 4:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot and critically injured in an attempted robbery in the Oakland neighborhood, police said.
He was shot in the abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital following the shooting in the 3800 block of South Ellis Avenue, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
Tannehill said she had no information on the circumstances of the shooting.
