BRIEF: Man charged with stealing from Aurora churches

Dec. 30--An Aurora man has been charged with stealing from two churches.

Terry Ayala, 48, of the 600 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Aurora, has been charged with two counts of burglary to a place of worship and unlawful use of a credit card, according to the Aurora Beacon-News.

Ayala allegedly stole several metal objects used during regular and holiday Masses at a church in the 700 block of North High Street in Aurora on Dec. 13 and 26.

With the assistance of church staff and local business officials, Aurora police recovered the stolen items from a nearby recycling center in the 600 block of North Broadway Avenue.

After being interviewed by Aurora police investigators Ayala was charged with both of the burglaries.

Investigators also linked Ayala to the Sept. 21 theft of cash and an ATM card from a different Aurora church in the 500 block of South Fourth Street, where funds were illegally withdrawn from the church's account.

Ayala is being held at the Kane County Justice Center with a bond of $105,750.
