BRIEF: Man charged with shooting cousin during dispute

July 20--A 36-year-old man shot his cousin during an argument at the man's Back of the Yards home late Friday, prosecutors said Sunday.

Leroy Williams is accused of shooting a 33-year-old cousin in the lower left leg around 11:50 p.m. Friday. Williams faces a charge of endangering a life by recklessly discharging a firearm.

The two men were arguing at Williams' home in the 5400 block of South Carpenter Street, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Joseph DiBella.

Williams said the shooting was accidental, DiBella said. Williams told police he fired two shots, then blacked out and doesn't know how many times he fired, according to police records.

The injured man was treated at Stroger Hospital.

Williams turned to run when police arrived at the home, but police soon arrested him, according to police reports.

Judge Donald D. Panarese Jr. set Williams' bond at $200,000 Sunday. He is scheduled to return to court July 27.
