April 24--An Archer Heights man was ordered held without bail after being charged with murder in a fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman in early April in the West Elsdon neighborhood.
Giovanni Garcia, 20, of the 4700 block of South Kedvale Avenue was charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.
Garcia is being accused of shooting Lauren Membreno at 7:03 p.m. on April 8 in the 5400 block of South Karlov Avenue, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Membreno was seating in the front passenger seat of a parked vehicle when she was shot in the head.
Membreno, of the 5300 block of South Spaulding Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition where she later died on April 9, according to the medical examiner's office.
The victim's boyfriend was sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle, and police believe he was the intended target of the shooter.
A judge ordered Garcia held without bail Friday, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday.
