Man charged in Little Village shooting, confrontation with police

Dec. 25--A Little Village man has been charged in a shooting Tuesday night that was witnessed by police officers who fired on the gunman and arrested him after he pointed a gun at them, police said.

Hugo Minon, 18, was spotted firing at a 29-year-old man in the 2200 block of South Marshall Boulevard about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, police said. He's been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated assault of a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm and defacing a firearm's identification markings, according to police. Minon already was on parole for unlawful use of a weapon in an incident that took place a block away in 2013.

Officers on patrol spotted Minon shooting at the 29-year-old man. They chased Minon on foot and arrested him, police said. During the pursuit, Minon pointed his weapon at the officers and they fired shots, but no one was hit, police said.

The 29-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition and was being treated for a gunshot wound to the back, police said.

The handgun used by Minon was found and taken into evidence by police.

Minon, of the 2800 block of South Homan Avenue, was ordered held on $750,000 bond Thursday in a hearing before Cook County Criminal Court Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr.

Minon is on parole for a felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon conviction from 2013, according to state records. Minon was arrested about 1 a.m. Aug. 10, 2013, in the 2300 block of South Sacramento Ave. -- about a block from where the shooting took place Tuesday -- and was sentenced to a year in prison. He was released on parole June 23, according to public records.
