BRIEF: Man charged with impersonating police officer for the third time

May 16--A Bridgeport man twice convicted of falsely impersonating a police officer was arrested Sunday and charged with the same offense, according to police and court records.

Hong Chu, 47, was on probation for his most recent conviction when he approached someone Sunday evening in the 3400 block of South Bell Avenue and said he was a law enforcement officer, according to a news release from Chicago police.

Chu was wearing a set of handcuffs on his belt and police insignia on a T-shirt when he pulled up behind someone trying to park his car, police said. Chu walked up to the other man, asked "Do you know who I am?" and stated "I'm a cop," and then left.

Police located Chu about a block away and took him into custody. He was charged with impersonating a peace officer, a felony. He is expected to appear in court Monday.

He was previously convicted on similar charges in 2013 and 2015, according to Cook County court records.
