BRIEF: Man charged with arson after fire in Pilsen

June 01--Authorities charged a man with arson after he set himself and a building on fire, hurting two police officers, during a festival Sunday in the Pilsen neighborhood on the Lower West Side.

Alejandro Lozano, 33, was charged with a felony count of aggravated arson, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

Lozano was arrested after he was identified as the person who broke the front window of a retail business in the 1500 block of West 18th Street about 7:35 p.m. Sunday during the Mole de Mayo festival.

He allegedly walked inside the business and intentionally started a fire that caused significant damage to the building, according to the release.

Two police officers also were hurt, and they were taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said at the time.

Lozano, of the 2100 block of West 19th Street, also ended up hurting himself with the fire and was taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

He is scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court Wednesday.
