BRIEF: Man charged in shooting that wounded 14-year-old boy

April 14--A Northwest Side man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a 14-year-old boy over the weekend.

Ismael Ortiz, 19, hid behind a vehicle in the 5700 block of West Belden Avenue about 10 p.m. Sunday and began shooting at a group of three people, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was hit in the hand and taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition.

Ortiz was identified as the shooter and charged with aggravated battery, police said.

Ortiz, of the 2100 block of North McVicker Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail in a hearing Wednesday before Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil, according to prosecutors.
