BRIEF: Man charged in Goose Island stabbing death gets $100K bond

Aug. 23--A 27-year-old North Side man has been ordered held on $100,000 bond after being charged in the stabbing death of another man early Friday morning in the Goose Island neighborhood, police said.

Geno Rhodes, of the 300 block of West Schiller Street, has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of North Burling Street on the Near North Side, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

In bond court Sunday, Rhodes was given a $100,000 bond.

Michael Lomec, 48, who lived where the stabbing occurred, and Rhodes got into a physical altercation that led to the stabbing, police said in the statement. Police said Friday that the incident was domestic-related.

Lomec was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 2:36 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy conducted Saturday determined that he died of multiple sharp force and blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.
