March 12--A Ford Heights man was charged with breaking into a home in the South Suburb this week and attacking a disabled man who was asleep at his home at the time, according to Cook County sheriff's officials.
Patrick Conway, 36, was charged with home invasion, aggravated battery/strangulation, aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated battery to a victim who is disabled and two counts of resisting arrest. His bond was set at $250,000 Friday at the Markham Courthouse.
According to sheriff's officials, Conway allegedly broke into a home on the 1400 block of Regent Lane on March 9 at 1:25 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.
The victim, who is paralyzed on one side, was inside his bedroom and awoke to Conway over him attempting to choke him, officials said.
When family members attempted to stop the attack, the man fled the bedroom. The victim was treated by paramedics.
When police were trying to take Conway into custody, Conway struck one of the officers.
Police believe that Conway attacked the victim because the man did not way Conway living at the home. The victim has asked Conway to leave the home on several occasions, according to the sheriff's office.
