BRIEF: Man charged in connection with knife-wielding robberies

June 04--Authorities charged a man after several small businesses in Chicago and the western suburbs were robbed at knifepoint, police announced Wednesday.

Willie Doles, 39, of the 6900 block of South Oakley Avenue, was charged with five felony counts of armed robbery and one felony count of aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon, according to a statement released early Thursday by the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago police worked with members of the FBI to take Doles into custody about 1:10 p.m. Wednesday after he was identified as a suspect in robberies of several small businesses in the area, the statement said.

The arrest comes after reports that three clothing boutiques -- two stores in Lincoln Park and one in Bucktown -- were robbed in broad daylight over the past month.

Doles, who is on parole for a related crime, was also issued a warrant for parole violations, according to the statement.

Early Thursday, police would not say how many robberies have been connected to the person in custody and said the investigation remains ongoing.

Doles is expected to appear in Cook County Bond Court on Thursday.
