BRIEF: No bail for man accused of Back of the Yards shooting

Jan. 29--A judge denied bail Thursday for a 37-year-old man accused of a domestic-related shooting in September that injured two people in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Dasyun Catchings, 37, of the 5500 block of South Paulina Street in the city's West Englewood neighborhood, appeared before Judge Laura Sullivan, who denied bail during a hearing the the Leighton Criminal Court building, according to Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Catchings is slated to appear in court again on Feb. 3, said Simonton.

Catchings was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of possession of a controlled substance, police said.

He was arrested after he was identified as the man who shot a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man Sept. 21 at around 1:10 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Justine Street, police said. Catchings was involved in a domestic-related argument prior to the shooting, police said.

The woman was shot twice in the buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition at the time. The man had three gunshot wounds to the leg and was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.
