April 12--An Evergreen Park man is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail after police say he shot another man at a cellphone store on the Southwest Side last month.
Anton Davis, 22, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said.
Police said Davis shot a 23-year-old man about 6 p.m. March 27 inside cellphone store Exclusive Wireless, located in an Ashburn strip mall in the 3200 block of West 87th Street. The store is located about two blocks from Davis's own address on the 3000 block of West 87th Street, according to court records.
At bond court Saturday, assistant state's attorney Sarah Karr said the victim entered Exclusive Wireless to pay his cellphone bill and saw Davis, who he recognized from a fight the two of them had three years earlier. The victim decided not to pay his cellphone bill and instead turned around to exit the shop.
The two continued to glance at one another as the victim exited the shop and Davis began to walk toward the victim. As the victim reached the door, Davis pulled a 9 millimeter handgun from his right pant pocket, Karr said.
The victim lunged toward Davis to try and grab the gun but was unsuccessful. David fired the gun once, striking the victim in the right arm and chest, and ran out of the store, Karr said.
The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, suffering a wound to the chest and a graze wound to his arm. Karr said the victim was initially listed in stable condition.
Davis is an employee of Health Care Consortium of Illinois, according to court records. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 16.
