BRIEF: Man charged in Arlington Heights bank robbery

Nov. 18--A 37-year-old Arlington Heights man has been charged in connection with a bank robbery Nov. 9 in the northwest suburb, FBI officials said Wednesday.

John P. Stoessel, of the 300 block of West Tanglewood Drive, was arrested without incident onTuesday. He had been charged in a criminal complaint filed last week with one count of bank robbery, FBI officials said in a news release.

The complaint was unsealed after Stoessel was taken into custody, FBI officials said.

According to the complaint, Stoessel entered the TCF Bank branch, 440 E. Rand Road, about 10 a.m. Nov. 9. He allegedly approached the teller and "made a threatening demand for money," officials said.

The robber indicated he was armed but did not display a weapon. Investigators were tipped off to Stoessel after descriptions of the robber were noted in media reports, FBI officials said.

If convicted, Stoessel faces up to 20 years in federal prison, officials said.
