BRIEF: Man, several others taken into custody in Far North Side barricade incident

Dec. 22--A barricade situation on the city's Far North Side ended quietly Monday morning with several people being taken into custody, including the man who police say was the initial suspect in the incident.

A Chicago Police Department SWAT team had responded about 2:40 a.m. Monday to a man holed up in a vacant apartment in the 1600 block of West Sherwin Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.

The situation ended about 7:50 a.m., according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic, with the man being taken in custody "without incident," along with "several" others. Sedevic did not yet have an age for the man or specific information about how many others were involved.

No charges have been filed.

There were no injuries, Sedevic said, and no gunfire. She said police do not believe it was a hostage situation and that it was not domestic-related. No other details were immediately available.

Police were not allowing people back inside the apartment building early Monday. A CTA warming bus had been called for residents, police said.
