BRIEF: Man attacked neighbor with bear-deterrent spray on Thanksgiving, prosecutors say

Dec. 01--A Northlake man was ordered held on $50,000 bail Sunday after prosecutors say he blasted his elderly neighbor with bear-deterrent spray on Thanksgiving.

Tony L. Yu, 26, of the first block of King Arthur Court, is charged with felony aggravated battery in Thursday's incident, according to Cook County court records.

Assistant State's Attorney Julia Ramirez said Sunday that Yu used the spray on an 80-year-old apartment complex neighbor.

The bear spray, a hopped-up version of pepper spray used to deter aggressive bears, left the neighbor with "extreme redness, irritation, burning, difficulty breathing" and temporary vision loss, according to court records.

It was not made clear Sunday in bond court what prompted the attack.
