BRIEF: Man arrested in January shooting of 2 women

March 08--A 20-year-old man has been charged in the connection with the shooting of two women in January in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

David Ochoa, of the 4800 block of S. Laflin Street in Back of the Yards, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm -- occupied vehicle, according to a release from the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.

The shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. Jan. 23 in the 4400 block of S. Marshfield Avenue, according to the release. A 21-year-old woman was shot in the leg and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition. A 20-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the hand and buttocks and refused treatment at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, police said that the two women had been walking on Marshfield Avenue when a dark-colored SUV pulled up and an attacker stepped out, police said. The offender yelled "Saint killer," fired shots and then fled the scene in the SUV, police said.

Police said then that the 20-year-old woman was a documented gang member.
