BRIEF: Man accused of snatching phone on CTA Red Line train

Nov. 11--A 19-year-old man has been accused of snatching a phone on a CTA Red Line and fleeing the rail car before being caught a short distance later.

Cornell Hutchins of the 3700 block of North California Avenue was charged Tuesday morning with robbery, accused of taking phone from a commuter near Cermak Road, said police. The robbery happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday.

Police said Hutchins took the victim's phone, then darted off the rail car. The victim got off the train and followed Hutchins, who later threw the phone to the ground. Police were called and caught him a short distance later, said.

Hutchins was scheduled to appear Wednesday at Central Bond Court.
