BRIEF: Man accused of fatally shooting a dog is held on $150,000 bail

March 28--A Far South Side man accused of fatally shooting a dog was ordered held Sunday on $150,000 bail.

Shankar Henderson, 24, of the 2100 block of East 93rd Street, appeared in the Leighton Criminal Court Building and is facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and unlawful use of a weapon, records show.

A man was riding his bike in the 10000 block of South Avenue M on Saturday and saw Henderson hanging out near his house, according to court documents. Henderson approached the man about a gang conflict and pulled a black firearm out of his hoodie, records state.

The man ran to his house, and when he opened the door, the family dog ran outside. Henderson shot the dog in the head, killing it, as the man's mother watched, court documents said.
