BRIEF: Barricade situation ends peacefully; man arrested

March 06--A barricade situation ended peacefully Saturday afternoon and police took a 78-year-old man into custody in south suburban Dixmoor.

At 1:45 p.m. officers took the man into custody and there were no injuries, said Dixmoor Village Trustee Michael Smith.

The incident began about 6 p.m. Friday at a home near the intersection of West 142nd and Robey streets in Dixmoor, Smith said.

The man had been holding his girlfriend hostage until about 7:30 a.m. Saturday when he released her, Smith said. She was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The man, a veteran, had been communicating with police by telephone, Smith said earlier.
