July 07--A man has been charged with the weekend fatal shooting of another man in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side.
John Watley, 58, of the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Strong, police said. The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Sunday on the block where both Watley and Strong lived.
Strong, 48, was shot in the right side of his chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Details about what spurred the shooting were not available.
Watley was scheduled to appear Tuesday afternoon at a bail hearing.
