BRIEF: Man, 49, went missing New Year's Eve near Evanston

Jan. 13--Police are asking for the public's help finding a man who was last seen Dec. 31 near St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Walter "Walt" Smith, 49, frequents the area near his home on the 6400 block of South Claremont Avenue and near 51st Street. He is known to travel elevated train lines to Evanston and surrounding suburbs, police said. He is known to travel as far as Kenosha, Wis., they added.

Smith cuts his facial hair, but police said it's not unusual for him to let it grow a few weeks.

He is described as a black man with a medium complexion, black hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 230 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call detectives at 312-747-8380.
